Does hair grow beneath the scalp first and then push up? I ask because about 1/4 inch of a silver hair just appeared on top of my head about 3 days ago, it was clearly attached to a much longer strand and there had been no sign of it before. I'm just curious as to how that works.

It grows from the follicle which is under the scalp.The first gray hair is always traumatizing.Remember not to pull it.(and no 4 more won't replace it lol.)If you pull it and it grows back in it will stick straight up and be a even more of a pain.
